Plain-English definitions for the terminology used across Pitch Notes.
- 1X2
- A betting market where you pick one of three outcomes: a home win (1), a draw (X), or an away win (2).
- Accumulator
- A single bet that links multiple selections; all must win for the bet to pay out, multiplying the odds.
- Arbitrage
- Betting on all possible outcomes of an event across different bookmakers to guarantee a profit.
- Asian Handicap
- A handicap bet that gives one team a virtual lead or deficit to equalize the chances, eliminating the draw option.
- Bankroll Management
- The practice of setting a budget for betting and deciding how much to wager on each bet.
- Both Teams To Score (BTTS)
- A bet on whether both teams will score at least one goal during the match.
- Cash Out
- A feature that lets you settle a bet before the match ends, locking in a profit or limiting a loss.
- Correct Score (CS)
- A bet on the exact final score of the match, such as 2-1 or 3-0.
- Decimal Odds
- A way to express odds as a single number, such as 2.50, which includes your stake in the total return.
- Double Chance
- A bet that covers two of the three possible outcomes in a match, increasing your chance of winning.
- Draw No Bet
- A bet where you pick a team to win, but if the match ends in a draw you get your stake back.
- Dutching
- Spreading your stake across multiple outcomes in the same event to lock in a profit regardless of which one wins.
- Expected Value (EV)
- The average amount you can expect to win or lose per bet if you make the same bet many times.
- Fractional Odds
- A way to express odds as a fraction, like 3/2, showing how much profit you make relative to your stake.
- Half Time/Full Time (HT/FT)
- A bet that combines the result at half time and the result at full time, like home/away or draw/draw.
- Hedge
- Placing a second bet on the opposite outcome to reduce risk or secure a profit after an initial bet.
- In-Play
- Betting on a match while it is ongoing, with odds that update as the action unfolds.
- Juice
- The commission a bookmaker charges on a bet, usually built into the odds, also called vigorish.
- Kelly Criterion
- A formula that calculates the optimal percentage of your bankroll to bet based on your edge.
- Margin
- The bookmaker’s built-in advantage, expressed as a percentage, ensuring they profit over the long term.
- Over/Under
- A bet on whether the total number of goals in a match will be over or under a set number.
- Payout
- The total amount of money you receive when a bet wins, including your original stake.
- Self-Exclusion
- A tool that lets you temporarily or permanently block yourself from betting on the site to help control gambling.
- Stake
- The amount of money you put on a bet.
- Value Bet
- A bet where the odds offered are higher than the true probability of the outcome, giving you an edge.
